It is fitting – nay, poetic – that my decision to celebrate Anago Marketing being a ‘thing’ for five years was sparked by an Instagram advert. Sweet Lionheart posted a pretty carousel telling me about their custom corporate cakes, and I was hooked (or is that on the hook!? 😋).
While I toyed with the idea of arranging one gathering for all my clients and service providers to celebrate this milestone for about two minutes, in my gut I always knew that the best way to combine relationship building, a brand experience and delight (the proven most powerful emotion you can evoke in your customers) would need to be something different than the usual corporate event.

That’s how I ended up planning a roving company birthday party. With helium balloons and custom-made cakes in customised packaging. Hand delivered by me… with a photographer and my intern in tow.
I crafted an appropriately emotive message to attach to each cake, then worked with Nikki from Sweet Lionheart on the perfect cake box design that would convey my brand’s fun personality. Since it all started with Instagram, and since I teach an Instagram masterclass, it felt right to use Instagram as my inspiration. I asked Nikki to incorporate certain elements into the cake box design, including #smallbusinessownersrock and “I’m with the brand” and I was pretty chuffed with the result. With the cake order finalised and the custom design sorted, it was time to sort out logistics.
We prepped almost all the recipients beforehand with a cryptic WhatsApp message. (It said something about dropping off a small surprise.) And then we love-and-cake-bombed them one by one, taking video clips and photographs along the way!
